Barcelona

Yesterday made its to my final destination Barcelona – yeah. I don’t have an accurate total km count for the trip but it is somewhere between 2500 and 2700. Super lucky I had no major incident on the trip. Only total 3 punctures which is pretty good considering the trails I was on sometimes.

Yesterday though I had one mechanical failure – but I was almost home. My rear derailer broke and I only had my front two gears to shift between for tha last 30km. Thank god it happened at the end.

The trip from Girona was pretty easy just over 100km. No major hills – also nothing particularly spectacular to look at …

Half the trip was on gravel roads following small rivers. Most of them dried out at this time of year …

Girona is definitely a “biking city”. Leaving I saw many expensive bikes – similar to what you see only in Woodside / Palo Alto. Except all the riders were about 40 years younger here 🙂

Passed through the old city of Hostalric. Why are all the Spanish towns on steep hills ;-(

One final puncture. As mentioned – right after my rear derailer broke down and it was slow progress the last 30km home ….

Approaching Barcelona along the beach the wind had really picked up and tons of folks were out kitesurfing …

Approaching home – Barcelona has the last 5-6 years greatly improved biking facilities in the city …

They were setting up for a concert in our neighborhood, I sat and listened to them practicing for a bit …

There is a reason the streets in the old Barcelona are so narrow – the shade keeps things so much cooler …

Celebrating a succesful trip with a beer in the neighborhood …

Well done, Rolf! Congratulations on your journey across Europe.
You and your bike did a great job. You’ve added a wonderful and memorial event to your retirement life. Take your time to recover and prepare for your next challenges. Thanks for your providing the opportunities that we could touch on the different aspects of Europe through your journey.
