Aufwienerschnitzel Germany – salut la France

Today I passed the border crossing into France. The route was all in the woods – staying in the nature park Voges du Nord (in both Germany and French part). Pretty remote area – maybe crossed something like 3 folks on the trail.

Started right off with a big climb out of Kaiserslautern.

Passed this scary looking hotel in the middle of nowhere. Looks haunted…

Good thing I packed a sandwich. Jambon, beurre, cornichon

Passed an old abandoned train station

This is the border. There was just a sign along the trail in the woods explaining about all the trails in the park in both languages.

Just after the border in the woods I passed an old bunker. Assuming from 2’nd WW!

Decided to stop early around 4pm today to give my legs some rest. Fell into a long chat with a British couple next to me. I noticed the husband had a really expensive Specialized and Scott bike. Turns out he is an avid biker – and has done Mt Ventoux many times! He is in the area for the trails …

Having a beer at the campground cafeteria before dinner …

Jealous of the jambon beurre. You can binge on all the great food in France with everything you are burning.
