Today took me from Macon down the Saône river to Lyon and then down the Rhône river to Vienne. Above on the hill you see the famous Notre-Dame de Fourvière in Lyon. I didn’t make it up there it was too hot ..

Left Mâcon early in the morning so I could ride when the air was cold. First part of the trail went through some amazing bird sanctuary’s. Tons of Herons, Storks, Swans. If you are ever into bird watching this would be a place to visit..

Cows were out on the trail sharing the path …

My bike need a serious hosing down with all the trail dust and so did I..

Got to Lyon around noon – approaching from the Saone side. Lyon is where the Rhône and Saone river meets

Had lunch just outside the Roman quarter in a cafe. Had a nice long interesting chat with two locals – long term Lyon residents…

Old narrow streets with cool old apartment buildings from Roman area…

Snug inside one. All the buildings are build around a central spiraling stone staircase..

Lyon is still not overrun with tourists – so you can go a few alleys in and there is virtually nobody…

Different period building styles mixed up …

center of town you have the classic turn of the century buildings ..

Heading south now along the Rhône river to Vienne. Here I’m following “Véloroute du Rhône » – EuroVelo 17. 

This route it turns out is not as well established as the other bike routes. Some sections are really rough -and some going through some very busy areas. The last 35km was slow progress ..

Made it to Vienne late afternoon …
